The son thanks his Mom and goes off to double-check this with his father.

Satellite TV goes Free

A free satellite television and radio service from the BBC and ITV is being launched across the UK to plug the gap left by Freeview by reaching an estimated 98% of households. It will carry 80 digital TV and radio channels, including free high definition programmes, with that number due to rise to 200 by the end of 2008.

Users will make a one-off payment for a dish, set-top box and installation i.e no monthly subscription.

The price of a box will start at £49, rising to £120 for a high-definition (HD) Freesat box. The cost of installation, including the satellite dish, will be a further £80.

TorrentSpy Vs Motion Picture Association of America

Peer-to-Peer File Sharing site TorrentSpy has been ordered to pay $110m (£56m) to the Motion Picture Association of America for copyright infringement weeks after the website shut down.

TorrentSpy use to facilitated illegal sharing of copyright files by hosting a collection of links to films and music. TorrentSyp utilised a legitimate file-sharing technology called BitTorrent to enable individual users to send and share large files by splitting the files in to small chucks.

Justin Bunnell and Wes Park owners of Valence Media, the parent company of TorrentSyp have filed for bankruptcy. Motion Picture began legal action against the website in February 2006.

Dan Glickman, chairman of the MPAA said.

This substantial money judgement sends a strong message about the illegality of these sites. The demise of TorrentSpy is a clear victory for the studios.

High street chains be warned!

Cyber terrorism in becoming a massive problem and some of the world elite hackers have warned high street chains that they will be the next victims.

This week at the InfoSecurity Europe conference in London the infamous Hackers Panel convened. The “hackers” usually remain anonymous, “for security reasons”, but this year’s they agreed to break cover.

The panel includes penetration testers and self-styled “white hat” hackers, who help companies tighten up their digital security by searching for flaws in their systems.

They warned that criminals could use the same tactics used to cripple Estonia’s government, Steve Armstrong from the SANS Institute for information security training said

If someone wants to have a pop at the UK, they are unlikely to go for the government web servers. They will go for the lower hanging fruit - companies which are seen as good representatives of the country.

The likes of Tesco, Marks & Spencer and B&Q can be seen as legitimate targets. We have to get the message across to companies.

Best Come Back Line Ever

This was apparently in the Washington Post - the title of which was, “Best Come Back Line Ever.”

In summary, the police arrested Patrick Lawrence, 22 year old white male resident of Dacula, GA, in a pumpkin patch 11:38 p.m. on Friday.

Lawrence will be charged with lewd and lascivious behaviour, public indecency,and public intoxication at the Gwinnett County courthouse on Monday.

The suspect explained that as he was passing a pumpkin patch he decided to stop. “You know, a pumpkin is soft and squishy inside, and there was no one around for miles. At least I thought there wasn’t,” he stated in a phone interview. Continue Reading…
